A
Brief History
Pogus began those
many years ago as a partnership between Dave Prescott and Gen Ken Montgomery
of Generations Unlimited and Al Margolis of Sound of
Pig Music (more on these labels at some future date). The first releases
were lps: "Prochronisms" by Morphogenesis, "Combines & Laminates"
by AMM, "Death of the Moon and Other Early Works" by Rune Lindblad, and
"1939" by Robert Rutman. These were followed by a co-release with Curious
Music of Frederick Lonberg-Holm's "Theory of Motion" on cd.
Due to a number of changes (life and otherwise) the partnership(s) dissolved. It took a while,
but Margolis took over. And what you now see and hear on the screen before
you is the result. (to be continued)
Currently Al is of course continuing with If, Bwana projects, playing bass with the Styrenes,
and producing an average two CDs a year which he releases on his Pogus
label. YIKES! So many things, so little time. Naturally the funding for
this musical addiction doesn't grow on trees so when he has 1/3 of his
life to spare he's busy with his job as A&R rep for New World Records.
We can continue to count on Al to present our ears and minds with challenging
works of virtually overlooked composers from the past as well as promoting
contemporary artists who push to do the same. Check the site often for
more Margolis history...
